Try practicing mindfulness by using these exercises.

Mindful eating:

  1. Look at the food, notice the colors, shapes, size.
  2. Notice if you are hungry and enjoy your hunger.
  3. Smell the food.
  4. Consider the food and all that went into its production: the labor, the soil and rain, transportation, and preparation.
  5. Now put the food in your mouth and notice it’s texture and all of the aspects of its flavor.

Practicing Gratitude:

  1. Scan the room you are in
  2. Make note of five things you are grateful for.

Walking Meditation:

  1. Find a quiet place 10 to 20 feet in length.
  2. Walk slowly, focusing on the experience of walking, being aware of the sensation of standing and the subtle movements that keep your balance.
  3. Maintain awareness of your sensation.
