Legislating Happiness

Happiness Headlines

In 2018 The University of Bristol introduced a course called ‘The Science of Happiness’. The course “teaches” happiness by developing strategies such as journaling, exercise, meditation, and gratitude.   They also found that teaching scientific studies on happiness increased well being.  However, as with any intentional change, the benefits only lasted as long as the strategies continued to be utilized.  It was found that students who took the course reported an initial increase in well-being of 10 – 15%.

Senior author Prof Bruce Hood put these findings in a book titled The Science of Happiness: Seven Lessons for Living Well.  You can purchase this here, (insert link) and you can look for our review of this book in next month’s newsletter.
