Change Your Scenery!

Rebecca Bennington Blog Picture
Change your scenery to change your attitude!

Every now and then I need to look at something different.  I’m not sure of all the psychological explanations of why this helps me, but I know that it sort of “resets” my perspective.  If I feel bored or unchallenged or under-stimulated, or sometimes if I want some time to myself, visiting a different place seems to perk up my attitude.

Today I visited the Cincinnati Museum Center to see the Pompeii exhibit.  Here was my take-away from that experience:

  • I went with a friend, so it was nice to socialize and get caught up.
  • While there I spoke with many people, particularly museum volunteers. They want to be helpful, and I needed help, so it was a win-win.
  • I learned some new things.
  • I walked a lot, so got a little exercise in.
  • The weather was nice, which was a bonus, because this was almost a 2 hour drive for us.

I love to travel but unfortunately, I do work for a living and cannot just pick up and go whenever I want to.  I have learned to rely on short trips to find new experiences and meet new people as often as possible.  I especially enjoy museums of all sorts, historical sites, gardens, and unusual shopping locations (usually just for window shopping!)  And I really, really like to stop for pie at the end of my journey….

Please share with me if you find that a change of scenery also helps you to reset your attitude.  I would like to hear some suggestions of places you go when you need to see something different!

(These guys look like they know what’s coming)!
